iPhone - Tesco mail setup

Choose settings1
Scroll down and choose Mail, Contacts and Calendars2
Tap Add account and select Other3
Tap Add Mail Account and enter the following information:4

Name: your name
Email: your Tesco email-address
Password: your Tesco email-password
Description: enter "Tesco"

Choose pop3 under incoming mail server and enter the following information:5

Hostname: mail.tesco.net
Username: email
Password: your email-password

Scroll down and under outgoing mail server, enter the following information:6

Hostname: mail.tesco.net
Username: email
Password: your email-password

Tap save and in select your emailadress in the next screen. 7
Scroll down and under outgoing mail server choose SMTP.8
Under Main server select mail.tesco.net and make sure the following information is displayed:9

SSL: none
Serverport: 25

Tap done and go to the previous screen. Choose Advanced and make sure the following information is correct:10

SSL: none
Serverport: mail.tesco.net

Again, go back to the previous screen. Restart your iPhone to finish the setup!11

Connecting without SSL is NOT fine - if you check your email from any public wifi network, _anyone_ can read your password. Any email provider not providing secure login for their service is being negligent.

I am trying to access my Tesco emails from my iPad. I have followed all the above step by step and when I check back all the information is correct but when verifying it keeps telling me can not connect to the server (failed) or the information is incorrect. My internet is connected so I don't know why it's happening.

I am trying to set up on my iPad Air. When I do step 6 the iPad starts "verifying" and remains verifying for sometime and eventually locks out the email settings screen & I am unable to go any further. I can receive emails but I am still unable to send.

tried many times and it still doesn't work.
first it says Cannot connect using SSL, do you want to try without, so i say Yes.
then it always says the username or password for mail.tesco.net is incorrect.
I've logged in using these on my computer all the time the password and username are correct.
and thats it i can do anything else as if i save it as it saying i wont get or send any emails.
please help

I have repeatedly followed directions to add my tesco email address to my iPad to no avail . I like all of the other people writing into you get the message that my email or pass word doesn't match . I have recently upgraded my phone to the iPhone SE and went in to EE to get help from them to set up my email on the phone. I have attempted to set up my email via your instruction above an keep failing. I have had my email address and password for many years but stil i get rejected. Fortunately i get my email on my iMac, Macbook pro, iphone 4s, but not on my new iphone 6S plus. I keep getting message of error 'cannot get mail' the mail server "mail server.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.

I have frequently but still get this message.

Additionally I have used my Macbook pro and here I get my mail????????

I cannot send emails on my iPhone 5. Message is 'the sender address (my email address) was rejected by the server'.
The only step above I could not complete was 10. Server port is 25, and doesn't accept text to write in 'mail.tesco.net'.

So...the information here is correct but the workflow is slightly wrong and if you follow the instructions you will not connect. Here's what I did to connect:
When you set up mail you can follow the instructions up to step 4 but then:
When you click 'next' you will open a page which has IMAP and POP tabs - IMAP will be automatically selected but you should click on POP.
Under settings you should use mail.tesco.net for both incoming and outgoing settings. Use your full email address for both incoming and outgoing username. Enter your password in the password field for incoming and outgoing settings (don't leave any field blank - nothing is optional).
When you click on 'Verify' the update indicator will spin for ages...and then you'll receive an error message saying unable to connect using SSL (this is fine - Tesco doesn't use SSL). The message box will ask if you want to try to connect without SSL - click 'Yes'. The update dial will spin for ages and then the same error will pop up again - stick with it and select 'Yes' in response to the 'Try to connect without SSL' message. Brace for another long wait but eventually the mail client will connect to both the POP3 and SMTP servers without SSL security and your mail will download.
If you're having problems go to Safari and browse to email.tesco.net, enter your full email address as a username and then your password. If you can't get to your email through the web interface you've either got your email address or your password wrong - either way you've no hope of setting up your iPad or iPhone using settings which don't work on the web interface.
