Android guide to setup AOL mail

1 Open your Email application from the menu, add a new account and choose 'Other'.

If you do not have an account yet, you can start setting up right away. Otherwise, open 'Settings' in the email app and choose 'Add account'.

2 In the next screen enter your account details and click on 'Login':

Email: your AOL email address
Password: your AOL email password

3 Choose imap and enter the following details under 'Server incoming mail':

imap server: imap.aol.com
Security type: ssl
Port: 993

4 Your account is now ready to use.

Congratulations, your account is now set up. Open the email app on your smartphone to use your email.

I have ported my verizon.net email to AOL and I am trying to set up an android email program to access and send to the new AOL email account (abyss2u@verizon.net). While setting it up I can get the imap incoming server setting to work. However, when I add the smtp.aol.com outgoing server settings (smtp.aol.com; SSL; port 587; and the user name "abyss2u@verizon.net"; and password settings: the android program tries to confirm the above setting and the response is "Cannot safely connect to server" error. Why do my incoming server settings work, but the outgoing smtp settings do not? -able P.S. I do not want to use the AOL android app to access my ported over verizon.net email account.
