Virgin email settings for iPhone

iPhone guide to setup Virgin mail

1 Open 'Settings', click on 'Passwords & accounts' and 'Add account'.

Click on your provider name if it's listed, otherwise click on 'Other'

2 Choose 'Add mail account', and enter the following information:

Name: your own name
Email: your Virgin email address
Password: your Virgin email password
Description: a personal description

3 Choose imap and enter the following details under 'Incoming mail server':

Hostname: imap4.virgin.net
Username: your Virgin email address
Password: your Virgin email password

4 Under 'Outgoing mail server' enter the details below and choose 'next':

Hostname: smtp.virgin.net
Username: your Virgin email address
Password: your Virgin email password

5 Make sure 'Email' is checked and click 'Save'.

Your email account is now saved. In the next steps we check if all settings are correct.

6 Click on your newly created email address and choose 'Advanced'. Make sure that the following data is correct under 'Incoming server':

Use SSL: on
Identity check: password
Server port: 993

7 Go back to the previous screen and under 'Outgoing server' click on smtp.virgin.net. Make sure the following information is correct:

Use SSL: on
Identity check: password
Server port: 465

8 Choose 'Done' at the top right and restart the iPhone to activate the settings.

Congratulations, your account is now set up. Open the mail app to use your account.

  • I've had my virgin.net account set up on my iPhone/iPad for sometime now. Since Tuesday I have been receiving the following error message "The mail server 'imap4.virgin.net' is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings. I haven't changed any of the details since it was last sending/receiving mail. Any suggestions? I have tried deleting my account and reinstalling it but it's not giving me an option of setting it up as IMAP .

  • I can receive emails but can't send. Error message says my email address (send address) has been rejected by the server. Message is placed in the outbox

  • PS: Referring to my previous message. This problem is new, I have not had trouble before so would expect the 'Settings' to be OK.

  • Why can I not sent any emails but can receive. Same message comes up "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The send address "kirstie.sharp@virgin.net" was rejected by the server.
