iPhone guide to setup BT Internet mail

1 Open 'Settings', click on 'Passwords & accounts' and 'Add account'.

Click on your provider name if it's listed, otherwise click on 'Other'

2 Choose 'Add mail account', and enter the following information:

Name: your own name
Email: your BT Internet email address
Password: your BT Internet email password
Description: a personal description

3 Choose imap and enter the following details under 'Incoming mail server':

Hostname: mail.btinternet.com
Username: your BT Internet email address
Password: your BT Internet email password

4 Under 'Outgoing mail server' enter the details below and choose 'next':

Hostname: mail.btinternet.com
Username: your BT Internet email address
Password: your BT Internet email password

5 Make sure 'Email' is checked and click 'Save'.

Your email account is now saved. In the next steps we check if all settings are correct.

6 Click on your newly created email address and choose 'Advanced'. Make sure that the following data is correct under 'Incoming server':

Use SSL: on
Identity check: password
Server port: 993

7 Go back to the previous screen and under 'Outgoing server' click on mail.btinternet.com. Make sure the following information is correct:

Use SSL: on
Identity check: password
Server port: 587

8 Choose 'Done' at the top right and restart the iPhone to activate the settings.

Congratulations, your account is now set up. Open the mail app to use your account.

  • I use btinternet mail through the iPhone mail app I have recently encountered a problem when I delete emails When deleting a specific email the item disappears from the inbox but leaves a blank space where the original item was deleted I’ve now been to the Apple Store twice . Their fix is to delete the whole account and reset it up. but the problem recurs within a couple of days. Can you explain why the problem is happening?

  • trying to open new btinternet e mail account on my apple products. on my i phone keep getting the same error message "username or password for mail.btinternet.com is incorrect". I think I'm following all the instructions correctly and have never had any problems setting these up before. Any help would be appreciated.
